No. 5 Highlanders take two from Hill

The McLennan Highlanders swept this afternoon's conference doubleheader with the Hill Rebels in Hillsboro.
 
Marquis Jackson's solo home run for the Highlanders in the top of the third inning would be the only run in the opener, giving McLennan then 1-0 victory. Will Carsten picked up the win on the mound and Will Glatch got the save.
 
The Highlanders defeated the Rebels 4-3 in the nightcap. Devin Bennett got the win on the mound and Jared Matheson picked up the save.
 
McLennan scored two runs in the top of the first. Ty Johnson hit a solo home run. Cole Fontenelle then walked, stole second, advanced to third on an error and scored on a single by Katcher Halligan.
 
Hill's first run of the afternoon came in the bottom of the third as Hayden Blair doubled, moved to third on a double by Jagger Schattle and scored on a ground out by Eric Garcia.
 
The Highlanders added a run in the eighth as Jackson walked, advanced to third on a single by Jason Hawkins and scored on a fielder's choice by Johnson.
 
McLennan's final run came in the top of the ninth as Fontenelle singled and came all the way around to score on a Hill error.
 
The Rebels rounded out the scoring with two runs in the bottom of the ninth. Alan Benhardt singled and Case Pettis drew a walk. Both runners scored on a single by Cade Sanchez.
 
McLennan and Hill will complete the conference series with a noon doubleheader Saturday at Bosque River Ballpark.
