The McLennan Highlander men's golf squad will open the fall season this weekend ranked sixth in the Bushnell Golfweek NJCAA Division I Preseason Coaches Poll. The Highlanders, sixth-place finishers at the NJCAA National Championship in May, received 26 points in the poll.
Midland, a Region V opponent for the Highlanders and third-place finishers at the national tournament, sits atop the poll with 46 points and three first-place votes. Defending national champion Indian Hills is in second with 25 points and two first-place votes, followed by Odessa in third with 39 points.
Iowa Western (fourth), Central Alabama (fifth), Eastern Florida State (seventh), Hutchinson (eighth), Western Texas (ninth), New Mexico (tied for 10th) and Wallace State (tied for 10th) round out the top-10. Dodge City, Eastern Arizona, Barton and Calhoun are all receiving votes.
The first regular-season Bushnell Golfweek Coaches Poll will be released Sept. 28.
McLennan begins play Saturday at the Collegiate Amateur Championship in Andrews.
