McLennan Softball run rules Paris in national quarterfinals

McLennan Softball is advancing to the semifinals of the NJCAA Division I National Championship following today's 11-3 run-rule win over the Paris Dragons. Cheyenne Floyd picked up the win in the circle in relief of Mattie Wolkow.
 
Paris took the early lead with a run in the top of the first. Macy Richardson and Jessika Roberts led off with back-to-back singles. Both runners advanced on a ground out by Kelsey Keierleber, and Richardson scored on a ground out by Jayda Carter.
 
McLennan tied the game with a run in the third as Julia Herzinger tripled and scored on a sacrifice fly by Caitlyn Wong.
 
The Dragons scored two in the fifth to take the lead. Meilana Lopez was safe on a dropped third strike and was replace by pinch runner Bailey Willoughby. Willoughby advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by Richardson and scored on a double by Keierleber. Carter then singled to score Keierleber.
 
McLennan added a run in the fifth as Sidney Campion singled, advanced to second on a ground out by Ka'Lyn Watson and scored on a single by Jenny Robison.
 
Nine runs in the bottom of the sixth sealed the run rule for McLennan. Riley Rutherford singled and was replaced by pinch runner Rachel Warren. Herzinger walked and Wong singled to load the bases. Riley Todd replaced Wong as the runner at first. Maddie Saven singled to score Warren and tie the game. Jalie Neff followed with a sacrifice fly to score Herzinger. Campion shingled to score Todd, and Watson singled to reload the bases. Robison followed with a single to score Saven, and Campion scored on an error. Erin Plunkett then doubled to score Watson and Robison. Rutherford singled, and Plunkett scored on a ground out by Herzinger. Wong then singled to score Rutherford and end the game.
 
McLennan will face fifth-seed Odessa (Texas) at 2 p.m. (CT) Friday in the semifinal round.
