Highlassies squeak by Cisco

The McLennan Highlassies defeated the Cisco Lady Wranglers 87-80 Saturday afternoon at The Highlands.

The teams traded the lead through the first seven minutes of play. McLennan built a six-point lead, 28-22, with two minutes left in the first quarter. Cisco's Chamira Cockerham hit a buzzer-beating jumper to cut the lead to four heading into the second period, 28-24. The Highlassies were on fire starting the second quarter, opening on a 14-0 run to take the 18-point lead with 6:20 remaining in the first half, 42-24. The Lady Wranglers responded with a 10-0 run to cut the lead to eight less than three minutes later. Cisco continued to chip away and a buzzer-beating 3-pointer by Erin Willis cut the McLennan lead to two at the break, 44-42.

The Highlassies opened the second half on a 7-0 run to extend the lead to nine, 51-42, with 6:45 to play in the third. Cisco rallied late in the quarter and led 61-59 going into the final period. The Lady Wranglers led 63-61 with just under nine minutes to play. The Highlassies used an 8-0 run to take the 69-63 lead with six minutes to go. The Lady Wranglers cut the lead to four with 20 seconds to play but couldn't pull any closer.

Caylinne Martin led the Highlassies with 19 points and Kyera Coleman added 16. Tayla Taylor and Diamond Ervin scored 13 and 12, respectively.
