Highlanders fall to Walters State
The McLennan Highlanders fell to the Walters State Senators 13-5 in eight innings in the second round of the 2025 Alpine Bank JUCO World Series. Mason Cook took the loss on the mound for the Highlanders.
McLennan scored one run in the top of the second. Deiten Lachance singled and advanced on an error. McClane Helton walked and Brody Chyr singled, loading the bases. Lachance then scored on a ground out by Cage McCloud.
Walters State tied the game with Holden Pantier's home run in the bottom of the inning.
The Highlanders scored three in the third to take the lead. Spencer Butt walked and Marcus Smith singled. Daniel Harden also singled to load the bases. Owen Smith then doubled to score all three runners.
The Senators took control with five runs in the fourth. Pantier and Carson Cabbage both singled. Walker Morgan reached on an error, scoring Pantier and Cabbage. Jack Torbett followed with a triple to score Morgan. Taylor Harris singled, scoring Torbett. Nate Conner singled and advanced on an error. Harris then scored on a ground out by Jack Vogele.
Another Walters State run scored in the fifth as Pantier singled, advanced on a passed ball, moved to third on a single by Morgan and scored on a sac fly by Torbett.
Three more Senator runs scored in the sixth. Connor walked and advanced on a ground out by Vogele. Tyler Myatt doubled to score Connor. Pantier singled and advanced to second on an error, scoring Myatt. Another error brought Pantier in to score.
McLennan scored one in the seventh. Marcus Smith was hit by the pitch but Harden's fielder's choice put him out at second. Lachance was also hit by the pitch and Helton walked, loading the bases. Owen Smith then walked to score Harden.
Walters State also scored one in the seventh. Harris singled and advanced around to third on a throwing error. Kole Fenton then singled to score Harris.
The Senator sealed the run rule with two runs in the eighth. Cabbage singled and Torbett reached on a fielder's choice. Harris singled to score Cabbage. Fenton was hit by the pitch, and Connor walked to score Torbett.
