Highlanders end season in JUCO semifinal
The McLennan Highlanders run at the JUCO World Series with an 11-9 loss to the Walters State in Grand Junction. Kadyn Leon took the loss on the mound.
McLennan began the scoring with three runs in the first inning. Daniel Harden doubled and Deiten Lachance singled. McClane Helton singled to score Harden. Owen Smith then singled to score Lachance and Helton.
Walters State scored two in the bottom of the first. Kole Fenton singled and Holden Pantier walked. Carson Cabbage followed with a single, scoring Fenton. Pantier then scored on a wild pitch.
The Senators tied the game with Atticus Goodson's home run in the bottom of the second.
Four Walters State runs in the third inning put the Senators on top. Pantier walked and advanced on a passed ball. Tyler Myatt followed with a two-run homer. Cabbage reached on an error, and Jack Torbett singled. Taylor Harris singled to load the bases. Walker Morgan then reached on a fielder's choice, putting Harris out at second and scoring Cabbage. Torbett then scored on an error.
The Highlanders added a run with Brody Chyr's home run to lead off the fourth.
The Senators also scored one in the fourth. Pantier was hit by the pitch and Myatt doubled. Pantier then scored on a sac fly by Cabbage.
McLennan responded with two runs in the top of the fifth. Helton doubled and Owen Smith was hit by the pitch. Both runners scored on a double by Chyr.
Another Walters State run scored with Morgan hit a solo home run in the bottom of the fifth.
The Senators put another run on the board in the sixth as Myatt singled, advanced on a fielder's choice by Cabbage, moved to third on an error and score on a fielder's choice by Taylor Harris.
Two McLennan runs scored in the top of the seventh. Helton and Owen Smith both singled. Chyr walked to load the bases. Abdiel Hernandez-Sostre then singled to score Helton and Smith.
Walters State's final run came in the seventh. Goodson was hit by the pitch and Nate Connor singled. Goodson was thrown out at third, and Connor advanced on the throw. Pantier then tripled to score Conner.
The Highlanders rounded out the scoring with a run in the eighth as Johnson reached on an error and scored on a double by Lachance.
