The sixth-ranked McLennan Highlanders run-ruled the Iowa Western Reivers 17-6 today, giving head coach James Leverton his first career victory. Charlie Kincaid picked up the win on the mound.
Iowa Western scored two in the second with homers by Justin Rompre Noah Kubo.
McLennan scored one on Samuel Jenkins' solo shot in the bottom of the second.
The Highlanders took the lead with four runs in the third. Brandon Dickinson and Cooper McEnroe both walked. Tyler Ness doubled to score Dickinson, and Michael Peavy reached on an error to score McEnroe. Jenkins then doubled to score Ness, and Peavy scored on a ground out by Brady Quinn.
The Reivers tied the game with one run in the fifth. Kubo and Adam Kudronowicz both singled. Charlie Kalbrener followed with a three-run homer.
McLennan scored six in the bottom of the fifth to go on top. McEnroe walked and scored on a double by Peavy. Jenkins then doubled to score Peavy. Quinn walked, and Abdiel Hernandez-Sostre singled to score Jenkins. Peyton Firgens grounded out, scoring Quinn. Dickinson and Brody Chyr both walked, loading the bases. McEnroe followed with a single to score Hernandez Sostre and Dickinson.
Iowa Western's final run came in the sixth as Nolan Geislinger singled, stole second and scored on a single by Kubo.
The Highlanders sealed the run rule with six runs in the sixth. Peavy was hit by the pitch and scored on a Jenkins home run. Quinn was hit by the pitch and scored on a home run by Hernandez Sostre. Firgens walked and Chyr doubled. Firgens then scored on a ground out by McEnroe, and Ness tripled to score Chyr.
