Highlanders shutout Westerners for series sweep
The McLennan Highlanders shutout the Western Texas Westerners 10-0 in five innings this afternoon to pick up the three-game series sweep. Stevie Doty picked up the win on the mound.
Two Highlanders runs scored in the bottom of the first. Brock Lulewicz walked and Cooper McEnroe singled. Brody Chyr followed with a single to score Lulewicz, and McEnroe scored on a single by Brett Haggerty.
McLennan exploded for seven runs in the second. Bryce Hampton and Peyton Firgens both walked. Hampton stole third and scored on a wild pitch. McEnroe singled to score Firgens, and Chyr and Haggerty both walked. Sam Jenkins was hit by the pitch, scoring McEnroe, and Chyr scored on a balk. Ramon Corona then singled to score Jenkins and Haggerty.
The Highlanders secured the run rule with a run in the bottom of the third. Lulewicz led off with a single, advanced to second on a wild pitch and moved to third on a fly out by McEnroe. Chyr then grounded out to score Lulewicz.
