Highlanders hold off Seminole State
The third-ranked McLennan Highlanders held on a for 14-11 win over the Seminole State (Oklahoma) Trojans this evening in Dallas. Griffin Lewis picked up the win on the mound, and Gavin McCullough got the save.
McLennan scored one in the bottom of the first. Brennon Seigler by the pitch, stole second and moved to third on a ground out by Brock Lulewicz. Cooper McEnroe drew a walk, and Seigler scored on a balk.
Seminole State got on the board with two runs in the second. Brayden Harpole singled and Jaylon Humbles followed with the two-run homer.
The Highlanders tied the game with a run in the bottom of the second as Sam Jenkins doubled and scored on a double by Abdiel Hernandez Sostre.
McLennan took the lead with four runs in the third. Seigler and Lulewicz both walked and McEnroe singled, loading the bases. Chyr reached on an error, scoring Seigler and Lulewicz. Brett Haggerty was hit by the pitch, and McEnroe scored on a sac fly by Jenkins. Nathan Tobin replace Haggerty as the runner at first. Tobin advanced on a wild pitch, and Chyr scored on a sac fly by Ramon Corona.
The Trojans added three runs in the fifth. Cohl McCoy triple and scored on a WT Jones home run. Hutch Russell single and Carter Sterling was hit by the pitch. Russell then advanced on a passed ball and scored on a single by Bennett Crafton.
The Highlanders tacked on two more runs in the bottom of the fifth as Tobin was hit by the pitch and scored on Jenkins' homer.
Seminole State scored two in the seventh. Jones and Russell both singled, and Sterling walked to load the bases. Crafton was hit by the pitch, scoring Jones. Harpole then hit into a double play, allowing Sterling to score.
The Trojans took the lead with two runs in the top of the eighth as. Jackson Lundquist singled and scored on a McCoy home run.
McLennan went back on top with six runs in the bottom of the eighth. Bryce Hampton was hit by the pitch and Peyton Firgens singled, both advancing on a wild pitch. Seigler then singled to score Hampton, and Brady Quinn doubled to score Firgens and Seigler. McEnroe followed with a single to score Quinn, and Chyr tripled to score McEnroe. Tyler Ness then grounded out to score Chyr.
Seminole State rounded out the scoring with two runs in the top of the ninth. Crafton was hit by the pitch, and Humbles singled. Simon also singled, loading the bases. Crafton scored on a passed ball, and McCoy walked to reload the bases. Jones was then hit by the pitch to score Humbles.
