Highlanders get series sweep of Rangers
The McLennan Highlanders picked up a conference-series sweep with a pair of wins this afternoon in Ranger.
McLennan defeated the Rangers 7-1 in the opener with Griffin Lewis get the win on the mound.
The Highlanders scored one in the second inning. Brady Quinn single and Nathan Tobin reached on an error. Both runners advanced on a wild pitch, and Quinn scored on a ground out by Ramon Corona.
The Rangers tied the game with a run in the bottom of the second. Joey Rodriguez was hit by the pitch and advanced around to third on a ground out by Richard and fly out by Will Moffitt. AJ Sanchez then doubled to score Rodriguez.
McLennan took the lead with three runs in the third. Peyton Firgens walked and Brennon Seigler singled. Brock Lulewicz reached on an error, scoring Firgens. Quinn then doubled to score Seigler and Lulewicz.
The Highlanders rounded out the scoring with three runs in the fifth. Cooper McEnroe led off the inning with a solo home run. Tobin walked, and Corona followed with a two-run homer.
Game two was a 10-1 run-rule victory in seven innings with Charlie Kincaid picking up the win.
McLennan scored one in the first as Seigler doubled and scored on a single by Sam Jenkins.
Two more Highlander runs scored in the second. Tyler Ness walked and Michael Peavy followed with a two-run homer.
Ranger got on the board with a run in the bottom of the second. Caleb Lopez doubled and Richard was hit by the pitch. Adriano Fernandez then doubled to score Lopez.
McLennan added two runs in the fifth. Peavy and Firgens both singled, and Seigler walked to load the bases. Jenkins singled to score Peavy, and Firgens was out at the plate on a fielder's choice by McEnroe. Lulewicz then singled to score Seigler.
The Highlanders scored three in the sixth. Peavy was hit by the pitch and Firgens singled. Seigler followed with a three-run homer.
McLennan scored two more in the seventh. Abdiel Hernandez Sostre was hit by the pitch and Ness walked. Peavy was also hit by the pitch, loading the bases. Firgens walked, scoring Hernandez Sostre, and Ness scored on a passed ball.
