Highlanders sweep Northeast Texas
The No. 12 McLennan Highlanders picked up a non-conference series sweep with a pair of wins over the Northeast Texas Eagles today at Bosque River Ballpark.
McLennan game from behind to take the opener 5-4 in eight innings with Jacob Evans picking up the win on the mound.
The Highlanders scored two in the bottom of the first. Brennon Seigler doubled and scored on a triple by Cooper McEnroe. McEnroe then scored on a wild pitch.
Northeast Texas took the lead with three runs in the top of the third. Cam Reiter led of with a single, and Luke Nohinek reached on an error. Boston Seahorn singled to score Reiter, and Jonahan Kent singled to score Nohinek and Seahorn.
The Eagles added a run in the fourth. Reiter singled, and Riley Patterson doubled. Nohinek then singled to score Reiter.
McLennan added a run in the fifth. Tyler Ness doubled and advanced on a wild pitch. McEnroe walked, and Ness scored when Sam Jenkins reached on an error.
The Highlanders tied the game with Jenkin's solo home run in the bottom of the seventh to force an extra inning.
McLennan sealed the win with a run in the bottom of the eighth. Peyton Firgens and Seigler both singled. Ness followed with a double to score Firgens and end the game.
In the series finale, the Highlanders shut out the Eagles 5-0 with Griffin Lewis getting the win.
McLennan scored one in the first. Ness and McEnroe both singled. Jenkins then singled to score Ness.
Another Highlander run scored with Seigler's solo home run to lead off the bottom of the third.
McLennan tacked on another run in the fourth as Nathan Tobin walked and stole second. Ramon Corona singled, and Tobin came in to score on an error.
The Highlanders scored one in the fifth. Seigler led off with a walk and Ness doubled. Seigler then scored on a wild pitch.
McLennan pushed the lead to five with another run in the sixth. Brady Quinn reached on an error and Tobin was hit by the pitch. A fielder's choice by Corona put Quinn out at third. Both runners advanced on a ground out by Firgens, and Seigler reached on an error to score Tobin.
