Highlanders roll over Wranglers
The No. 10 McLennan Highlanders rolled by the No. 25 Odessa Wranglers to advance to next week's super regional. Stevie Doty got the win on the mound.
McLennan scored one in the bottom of the fist. Brennon Seigler was hit by the pitch and advanced around to third on a single by Cooper McEnroe. Seigler then stole home.
The Highlanders added four more in the second. Tyler Ness and Brady Quinn both walked, and Brock Lulewicz singled to load the bases. Ramon Corona followed with a single to score Ness and Quinn, and Seigler singled to score Lulewicz and Corona.
Odessa's first run came in the top of the third. Paxton Samuelson singled and stole second. Alejandro Rivera walked, and Mateo Garcia single to score Samuelson.
The Wranglers added a run in the top of the fifth. Samuelson led off with a single and advanced on a sac bunt by Evan Mann. Rivera reached on an error, and Samuelson scored on a sacrifice fly by Bach Hartwig.
McLennan exploded for five runs in the bottom of the fifth. Brody Chyr singled and McEnroe walked. Ness singled to score Chyr, and Quinn followed with a three-run homer. Corona doubled and Sam Jenkins was hit by the pitch. Seigler then singled to score Corona.
Odessa cut into the lead with five runs in the top of the seventh. Rivera singled and Hartwig walked. Garcia followed with a double to score Rivera, and Mendoza singled to score Hartwig and Garcia. Byler singled, and Jacob Delgadillo reached on an error, scoring Mendoza. Clark also reached on an error, scoring Byler.
The Highlanders responded with two runs in the bottom of the inning as Lulewicz singled and scored on Bryce Hampton's home run.
The Wranglers scored one in the eighth. Rivera singled and advanced on a passed ball. Garcia then doubled to score Rivera.
McLennan rounded out the scoring with three runs in the bottom of the eighth. Chyr and McEnroe both singled, and Ness singled to score Chyr. Quinn drew a walk, and Lulewicz reached on an error to score McEnroe. Quinn advanced to third on a fielder's choice by Corona and scored on a fielder's choice by Hampton.
The Highlanders advance to next week's four-team double-elimination super regional to be hosted by the top seed remaining from the North following this weekend's regional series.
