Defending national champion MCC Dance Company wracks up summer camp awards

The MCC Dance Company followed up their NDA National Championship with numerous awards at this summer's NDA and UDA camps.

At NDA, the squad finished second in the Team Dance competition, earning a gold bid to NDA Collegiate Nationals to be held in Daytona Beach, Florida, in April. Sophomore captains Denzel Barton of San Antonio and Payton Meredith of Forney were named All-Americans along with freshman Jordan Wishart of Tyler. This is Barton's second All-American honor since joining the MCC squad in 2016.

Five members of the team attended UDA camp, bringing home superior trophies for both their Fight Song and Game Day performances. They were also named Most Improved. Dancers attending the UDA were Meredith and Wisehart along with captain Abigail Andrews of Alvin, sophomore MaKayla Bounds of China Spring, and freshman Jesus Coronado of Dallas.

"Wow! What a great start to the year! I'm so proud of these young ones, we've only got four veterans in the bunch," director Sandy Hinton said.
