The McLennan Highlanders clobbered the Coastal Bend Cougars 91-58 tonight at The Highlands
McLennan came out firing on all cylinders. The Highlanders opened on a 6-0 run with buckets by Joe Burgess, Joseph Mayberry III and Avion Jackson. McLennan led 10-5 with13:47 to play in the first half. Aiden Law came off the bench to hit back-to-back 3-pointers to push the lead to nine, 16-5. Coastal Bend added a 3-pointer from Roderick Dozier III before another Law long ball gave the Highlanders their first double-digit lead at 18-8. Already up 26-14 with 7:40 to go before the half, the Highlanders went on a 12-0 run highlighted by a pair of 3-pointers from Katayvon Jefferies to extend the lead to 24. McLennan led by as many as 29 late and held the 53-26 advantage at the break.
Coastal Bend began the second-half scoring with a bucket by Richard Safa before Jefferies stepped into the spotlight for the Highlanders. The guard score 11 straight for McLennan including three 3-pointers to give a 36-point lead, 64-28. The Highlanders coasted the rest of the way.
Katayvon Jefferies led the Highlanders with 22 points. Aiden Law and Amare Banks scored 13 and 11, respectively.
