Highlanders smash Saints
The McLennan Highlanders smashed the Our Lady of the Lake Saints 92-52 at The Highlands.
The game started le a 3-point contest with the two teams combining to hit give in the first two and half minutes of play. Our Lady of the Lake led 9-8 with 17:40 to play in the half. A 3-point play the old-fashioned way by Katayvon Jefferies gave the Highlanders the two-point lead at 11-9. It remained a two-point McLennan lead at 19-17 with 11:10 on the clock. The Highlanders broke the game open with an 11-0 run capped by a 3-pointer by Jefferies to push the lead to 13, 30-17. McLennan led by as many at 15 late in the half but the Saints rallied to pull within seven at halftime, 38-31.
Julian Cuillier drained a 3-pointer less than a minute into the second half to put McLennan back up by double digits. Our Lady of the Lake pulled within seven once again at 43-36. The Highlanders took control with a 10-0 including five points by Joe Burgess to break the game open, 53-36. The Saints were unable to recover this time as McLennan cruised to the win.
Timi Ibikunle led the Highlanders with 17 points and Amare Banks added 14. Joe Burgess scored 13, and Aiden Law had 12. Joseph Mayberry III rounded out the Highlanders in double figures with 12.
