Highlanders blast Blazers
The McLennan Highlanders blasted the North Lake Blazers 84-48 this afternoon in non-conference play at The Highlands.
The Highlanders were in control from the tip, opening the game on a 6-0 run with buckets by Avion Jackson, Joe Burgess and Amare Banks. Following an early North Lake timeout, a Jordan Edwards fadeaway put the Blazers on the board, 6-2. McLennan responded with a 7-0 run over the next three minutes to lead 13-2 at the first media timeout. The Highlanders continued to go full throttle, already leading 26-13 with 9:15 to go in the half, the squad held the Blazers scoreless for more than five minutes as they poured in 13 points to go up by 26, 39-13. McLennan closed the half on a 10-7 run to lead by 29 at the break, 49-20.
The offense slowed down considerably start the second half with the two teams combining to score just eight points in the first five minutes. A brief run by the Blazers cut the lead to 23 with 14:41 to play. That would prove to be as close as North Lake would get. McLennan held off the Blazers down the stretch, leading by as many as 36 on the way to victory.
Aiden Law led McLennan with 18 points and Katayvon Jefferies added 13. Howard Gaskins Jr. and Kardae Turner scored 10 each.
