No. 10 McLennan crushes Ranger
No. 10 McLennan pounded the Ranger Lady Ranges for a pair of run-rule victories in today's conference doubleheader in Ranger.
Hailey Hudson got the 22-0 shutout in the circle of game one, facing the minimum 15 batters in the five-inning game and striking out 11.
McLennan scored six in the top of the first. Ka'Lyn Watson singled and Erin Plunkett walked. Watson then stole third and scored on a ground out by Caitlyn Wong. Hudson walked and Jenny Robison singled to score Plunkett. Julia Herzinger was hit by the pitch, loading the bases. Maddie Saven reached on an error, allowing Hudson, Robison and Herzinger all to score. Sidney Campion then singled to score Saven.
McLennan exploded for 10 runs in the third. Robison singled and advanced to second on an error. Herzinger singled to score Robison, and Jalie Neff walked. Saven followed with a three-run homer. Campion walked and Watson singled, both advancing on a ground out by Plunkett. Wong followed with a three-run home run. Hudson and Robison both singled and scored on Neff's three-run homer.
Two more McLennan runs scored in the fourth. Watson reached on an error and was replaced by pinch runner Caitlin Bradley-Tse. Hudson followed with a two-run homer.
McLennan rounded out the scoring with four runs in the top of the fifth. Herzinger and Neff both singled, and Saven singled to score Herzinger. Riley Todd followed with a single to score Neff. Plunkett singled to score Saven. Sydney Kirby was hit by the pitch, and Todd scored on a fly out by Hudson.
McLennan continued to dominate in game two, defeating Ranger 15-1 in five innings. Cheyenne Floyd picked up the win in the circle, allowing just one hit.
McLennan scored two in the top of the first. Watson singled and stole second. Wong doubled to score Watson, and Plunkett doubled to score Wong.
Six McLennan runs scored in the fourth. Campion singled and scored on a double by Wong. Plunkett was hit by the pitch and Hudson singled. Wong scored on a Ranger error, and Herzinger singled to score Plunkett. Herzinger stole second and Hudson scored on another error. Riley Rutherford followed with a two-run homer.
Ranger's only hit and run of the day came on Carey's home run in the bottom of the fourth.
McLennan sealed the win with seven runs in the top of the fifth. Watson doubled and Campion singled. Wong followed with a three-run homer. Hudson doubled and scored on a single by Herzinger, and Rutherford singled. Both runners advanced on a wild pitch, and Saven walked to load the bases. Herzinger was out at home on a fielder's choice by Todd, and Rutherford scored on a wild pitch. Watson then doubled to score Saven and Todd.
McLennan and Ranger will complete the four-game series with a noon doubleheader Saturday at Bosque River Ballpark.
