McLennan shutouts Crowder in NJCAA opening round
The seventh-seed McLennan Softball squad picked up a 6-0 shutout over the 10th-seed Crowder Roughriders on the opening day of the NJCAA Division I National Championship in Yuma, Arizona.
Hailey Hudson picked up the win in the circle, holding the Roughriders hitless in five innings of work.
McLennan scored one in the bottom of the first. Ka'Lyn Watson and Jenny Robison both singled and advanced on a sacrifice bunt by Erin Plunkett. Watson then scored on a fielder's choice by Riley Rutherford.
Robison's solo home run to lead off the third made it a 2-0 McLennan lead.
McLennan rounded out the scoring with four runs in the fourth. Caitlyn Wong singled and was replace by pinch runner Riley Todd. Todd stole second and advanced to third on a sacrifice bunt by Sidney Campion. Jalie Neff followed with a doubled to score Todd, and Watson singled to score Neff. Robison singled to score Watson, and Robison sored on a single by Plunkett.
McLennan advances in the winner's bracket and will face second-seed Yavapai at 6 p.m. (CT) Wednesday.
