Highlanders' Allen snags another POY award
McLennan Softball's Trinity Allen has been named the NJCAA Division I Player of the Year (POY) following her exceptional sophomore season with the Highlanders. This makes her second POY award. Allen having been chosen the National Fastpitch Coaches Association's (NFCA) POY on Tuesday.
The first baseman from Cypress appeared in 59 of the Highlanders' 60 games. She recorded a .481 batting average with 21 doubles, two triples, 23 home runs and 95 RBI.
Allen recorded 28 multi-hit games and 22 multi-RBI games. She drove in a season-best eight runs versus Hill College and knocked in six at Vernon and Weatherford College. Allen finished the season ranked fourth in home runs, fifth in total bases (184), sixth in RBI, seventh in slugging and eighth in on-base percentage.
In addition to the two POY honors, Allen holds a slew of other awards. She is a two-time North Texas Junior College Athletic Conference (NTJCAC) First-Team All-Conference selection, the NTJCAC Co-Offensive Player of the Year (freshman), the NTJCAC Most Valuable Player (sophomore), a two-time NJCAA Region V All-Region selection, and two-time NFCA & NJCAA First-Team All-American, a two-time Rawlings Gold Glove winner.
She also exceled in the classroom, maintaining a perfect 4.0 GPA to graduate with Highest Honors. She was a NJCAA All-Academic Team First-Team selection in 2024 and will receive the same honor later this summer.
Allen leaves McLennan with career records for hits (190), home runs (47) and batting average (.541). She will continue her athletics and academic career at Wichita State University in the fall.
