Highlanders outlast Indian Hills & Southeastern
On Day 2 of the Highlander Games, the fourth-ranked McLennan Highlanders picked up two more wins.
In the early game, the Highlanders defeated Indian Hills 14-13 with Skylar Scott getting the win in the circle.
Indian Hills scored six runs in the top of the first inning. Bailey Tegeler, Mary-Paige Withers and Chandler Houselog all walked, loading the bases. Madisyn Buysse Walked to score Tegeler. Cassandra Benberg then reached on an error, scoring Withers, and Emma Scully walked to score Houselog. Gabby Lane followed with a single to score Buysse. A fielder's choice by Avery Kies put Benberg out at the plate. Tegeler then singled to score Scully and Lane.
McLennan took the lead with 10 runs in the bottom of the second. Lily King doubled and Delanie Roeder reached on an error, scoring King. Lillian Jones and Karaline Smitherman singled, scoring Roeder. Kaelani Rogers followed with a double to score Jones, and Jordan Tosch singled to score Smitherman. Rogers came in to score on a sac fly by Rylie Marquart, and Macie Jansky singled to score Tosch. King was hit by the pitch, and Ellie Brown singled to score Jansky and King. Jones walked, and Smitherman singled to score Brown and Roeder.
The Warriors added two runs in the fourth. Buysse, Benberg and Scully all singled. Buysse scored on a sac fly by Lane, and Kaitlyn Taylor singled to score Benberg.
The Highlanders added two in the fifth. Smitherman singled and Tosch reached on an error. Smitherman then scored on a sac fly by Marquart, and Jansky singled to score Tosch.
Two more McLennan runs scored in the sixth as Chayne Allen and Smitherman both singled and scored on a double by Rogers.
Indian Hills rounded out the scoring with five runs in the top of the seventh. Taylor reached on an error, Kies singled and Tegeler walked to load the bases. Withers singled to score Taylor, and Houselog singled to score Kies. Buysse followed with a single, scoring Tegeler, and Withers scored on an error. Houselog then scored on a sac fly by Benberg.
McLennan defeated Southeastern 4-2 in its second game of the day with Natalie Klenda going the distance in the circle.
The Blackhawks scored one in the first. Lydia Zaruba and Makenzie Sweeney both singled. Jaimee Bolduc then singled to score Zaruba.
Another Southeastern run scored in the second. Brianna Rubicz walked and Zaruba singled. Sweeney singled and Rubicz scored on an error.
The Highlanders took the lead with three runs in the third. Chayne Allen and Smitherman both singled. Allen scored on a sac fly by Brooke Fechner, and Marquart followed with a two-run homer.
The final McLennan run of the day came in the bottom of the fifth as Fechner tripled and scored on a single by Marquart.
