Highlander Softball wins two at home
McLennan Softball picked up a pair of wins on a beautiful Friday at Bosque River Ballpark.
McLennan opened the day with an 8-6 win over the Hutchinson Blue Dragons. Olivia Garrett got the win in the circle in relief of Skylar Scott.
The Highlanders put three on the board in the bottom of the first inning. Chayne Allen was hit by the pitch to lead off the inning. Rylie Marquart and Traci Lowry both singled to load the bases. Macie Jansky singled to score all three runners.
Hutchinson got on the board with a run in the second. Emery Benson-Hladik doubled and advanced to second on a ground out by Riley Dreher. Addi Lutz then singled to score Benson-Hladik.
The Blue Dragons took the lead with five runs in the third. Kaibryn Kruger, Leyla O'Connor and Tailor Golly all singled to load the bases. Gabby Stauffer singled to score Kruger, and Benson-Hladik singled to score O'Connor and Golly. Stauffer scored on a fielder's choice by Dreher. Lutz singled, and Reese Goetz was hit by the pitch to score Benson-Hdalik.
McLennan added a run in the third. Brooke Fechner and Kaelani Rogers both singled. Fechner then scored on a wild pitch.
The Highlanders scored one in the bottom of the fourth. Tayen Allen doubled and Ellie Brown walked. Chayne Allen then singled to score Tayen Allen.
McLennan took the lead with two runs in the fifth. Rogers singled but was out at second on a fielder's choice by Jordan Tosch. Tayen Allen tripled to score Tosch, and Brown singled to score Tayen Allen.
The Highlanders added a final run in the bottom of the sixth. Lowry doubled and advanced on a ground out by Lily King. Jayden Sadler then singled to score Lowry.
Natalie Klenda went the distance for the in game two to get the 5-2 win over the Snow Badgers 5-0.
The Highlanders scored three in the second. Fechner singled, stole second and advanced to third on a wild pitch. Lillian Jones doubled to score Fechner, and Marquart doubled to score Jones. Lowry followed with a single to score Marquart.
Two more runs score in the fifth. Sadler and Fechner both singled. Sadler was out at third on a fielder's choice by Delanie Roeder, and Jones singled to score Fechner. Chayne Allen singled, and Roeder scored on a sac fly by Marquart.
Both Snow runs scored in the top of the seventh. Chelly Deleon singled and advanced on a wild pitch. Avery Thorkelson and Brynlee Riedle both walked, loading the bases. Madison Salisbury singled to score Deleon, and Thorkelson scored on a ground out by Chloe Tycksen.
