Highlanders get double run rules over Ranger
The McLennan Highlanders swept the Ranger Rangers in this afternoon's conference-opening doubleheader, picking up a pair of run-rule wins.
The Highlanders took the opener 9-1 with Olivia Garrett getting the win in the circle, allowing two hits and one walk with 11 strikeouts in five innings.
McLennan scored on in in the first as Chayne Allen doubled and scored on single by Rylie Marquart.
The Highlanders added a run in the second as Delanie Roeder doubled and scored on a single by Karaline Smitherman.
Two more McLennan runs scored in the third. Tayen Allen doubled and Kaelani Rogers followed with a two-run homer.
McLennan tacked on three runs in the fourth. Chayne Allen singled, stole second and advanced on a sac bunt by Marquart. Macie Jansky walked and Lily King reached on an error, scoring Chayne Allen and Jansky. Rogers walked, and King scored on a single by Brooke Fechner.
Ranger's only run came in the bottom of the fourth as Daniela Ramirez doubled, was replaced by pinch runner Shayne McDaniel. McDaniel then stole third and scored on an error.
The Highlanders sealed the run rule with two runs in the top of the fifth. Smitherman led off with a solo home run. Chayne Allen then singled, stole second and third, and scored on a sac fly by Marquart.
It was all McLennan in game two with Natalie Klenda picking up the 8-0 win in the circle.
The Highlanders scored one in the first as Chane Allen singled, stole second, advanced on a sac bunt by Marquart and score on a sac fly by Traci Lowry.
McLennan added three in the third. Fechner singled and advanced on a back-to-back sac bunt by Roeder and Chayne Allen. Marquart singled to score Fechner and Lowry followed with a two-run homer.
Three more scored in the fourth. Rogers doubled and Jayden Sadler walked. Fechner reached on an error, loading the bases. Roeder singled, scoring Rogers and Sadler. Fechner then scored on a sac bunt by Chayne Allen.
Lowry secured the run rule with a solo home run to lead off the fifth.
