Highlanders tame Rebels
The No. 7 McLennan Highlanders completed the four-game conference series sweep of the Hill Rebels with a pair of wins today in Hillsboro.
McLennan romped over the Rebels in the opener for a 17-5 victory with Olivia Garrett getting the win in the circle.
The Highlanders took control with five runs in the first inning. Chayne Allen and Kaelani Rogers both doubled and scored on a double by Traci Lowry. Tayen Allen then doubled to score Rogers, and Karaline Smitherman followed with a two-run homer.
Four more McLennan runs scored in the third inning. Smitherman walked but was out on a fielder's choice by Rylie Marquart. Marquart stole second and scored on a single by Delanie Roeder. Brooke Fechner walked, and Roeder stole third and scored on a sac fly by Chaye Allen. Fechner scored on an error, and Rogers followed with a solo home run.
Jayden Sadler added a solo home run for the Highlanders in the fourth.
Halle Joy led off the bottom of the fourth with a solo home run for the Rebels.
McLennan responded with seven runs in the top of the fifth. Roeder singled, Chayne Allen walked and Rogers was hit by the pitch to load the bases. Ellie Brown walked, scorning Roeder. Lily King singled to score Chayne Allen, and Rogers scored on a fielder's choice by Tayen Allen that put Brown out at third. Sadler followed with a three-run homer. Lillian Jones then singled, advanced on a wild pitch and scored on a double by Roeder.
Hill rounded out the scoring with four runs in the bottom of the fifth. Madison Fletcher walked and Lady Forns was hit by the pitch. Madison Mauricio singled to score Fletcher. Kendal Sanford walked, and Forns scored on a wild pitch. Mia Gonzalez then grounded out to score Mauricio, and Sanford scored on another wild pitch.
Game two was an 11-inning marathon with the Highlanders coming out on top 11-7.
McLennan scored one in the first. Chayne Allen walked, stole second and advanced to third on a fly out by Rogers. Macie Jansky then grounded out to score Allen.
Hill took the lead with six runs in the bottom of the first. Mauricio, Kasara Brooks and Kaia Cobb all singled. Mauricio scored on a fielder's choice by Gonzalez, and Brooks scored on a ground out by Jayda Granger. Malaya Gabriel then double to score Cobb and Gonzalez. Landri Hernandez singled and stole second. Erika Gomez singled to score Gabriel, and Hernandez scored on an error.
The Highlanders added four runs in the second. Jones singled, stole second and scored on a single by Marquart. Jordan Tosch walked, and Chayne Allen followed with a three-run homer.
The Rebels' final run came in the bottom of the fifth. Brooks was hit by the pitch and Cobb singled. Presley Gaitan also singled, loading the bases, and Gabriel walked to score Brooks.
McLennan tied the game with two runs in the top of the sixth. Fechner doubled and Jones singled, both advancing on a sac bunt by Marquart. Fechner scored on a sac fly by Tosch, and Chayne Allen doubled to score Jones.
McLennan sealed the win with four runs in the top of the 11th inning. Tosch walked and stole second. Rogers singled and Brown was hit by the pitch, loading the bases. Smitherman followed with a double, scoring all three runners. Tayen Allen then doubled to score Smitherman.
