Highlanders sweep Vernon
The No. 6 McLennan Softball squad completed the four-game series sweep of Vernon with a pair of victories over the Chaparrals today at Bosque River Ballpark.
Game one was a 13-2 run rule affair with Olivia Garrett getting the win in the circle.
The Highlanders scored one in the bottom of the first. Chayne Allen led off with a single and stole second before scoring on a double by Traci Lowry.
McLennan added six runs in the second. Jayden Sadler was hit y the pitch and scored on a double by Karaline Smitherman. Delanie Roeder followed with a two-run homer. Rylie Marquart walked and Allen singled. Brooke Fechner then reached on an error, scoring Marquart. Fechner stole second, and Allen scored on a ground out by Lowry. Lily King followed with a sacrifice fly to score Fechner.
Both Vernon runs came in the top of the fourth. Valez walked and Gonzalez singled, both advancing on a sacrifice bunt by Vernona. Maxfield reached then reached on an error to score both runners.
The Highlanders rounded out the scoring with six runs in the bottom of the fourth. Fechner singled, stole second and moved to third on a passed ball. Lowry walked and stole second. King then singled to score Fechner. King stole second, and Tayen Allen singled to score Lowry and King. Tayen Allen advanced on an error and Smitherman singled. Roeder followed with a single to score Tayen Allen, and Smitherman scored on a ground out by Marquart. Chayne Allen then singled to score Roeder.
McLennan got the 2-1 walk-off victory in the closing game. Natalie Klenda went the distance in the circle for the victory.
The Highlanders scored one in the third. Roeder led off with a double and advanced on a sac bunt by Marquart. Fechner followed with a single to score Roeder.
The Chaparrals tied the game with a run in the top of the seventh. Phillips singled and Verona reached on an error. Laney then doubled to score Phillips.
In the bottom of the seventh, Roeder and Marquart both singled and advanced on a sacrifice bunt by Chayne Allen. Fechner singled to load the bases. King followed with the walk-off sac fly, scoring Roeder.
