Highlanders win two in Vernon

No. 6 McLennan Softball picked up a doubleheader sweep on the road at Vernon against the Chaparrals.
Game one was a dominating 14-1 run-rule victory with Olivia Garrett in the circle.
The Highlanders scored two in the first. Chayne Allend singled and score on a triple by Brooke Fechner. Lily King followed with a triple to score Fechner.
McLennan took control with five runs in the fourth. Ellie Brown doubled and scored on a single by Rylie Marquart. Delanie Roeder then singled to score Marquart. Fechner singled and scored on a triple by Traci Lowry, and a sacrifice fly by King scored Lowry.
Vernon scored its only run in the bottom of the fourth. Anita Gonzalez doubled and advanced on a sac bunt by Madison Maxfield. Cadence Vernona then grounded out to score Gonzalez.
The Highlanders scored on in the fifth as Marquart walked and scored on a double by Roeder.
McLennan rounded out the scoring with six runs in the sixth. Fechner led off with a double and scored on a double by King. Tayen Allen doubled to score King, and Jayden Sadler was hit by the pitch. Marquart followed with a double to score Allen and Sadler, and Roeder doubled to score Marquart. Jordan Tosch single and Fechner walked. Lowry then singled to score Roeder.
Natalie Klenda picked up the 5-1 win in the circle for game two.
Vernon began the scoring with a run in the bottom of the fifth. Maxfield doubled and advanced on a sac bunt by Phillips. Isabel Tamayo followed with a sac bunt to score Maxfield.
McLennan took the win with five runs in the sixth. Chayne Allen doubled and advanced on a sac bunt by Fechner. Macie Jansky double to score Chayne Allen, and King walked. Tayen Allen singled to score Jansky, and Jayden Sadler singled to score King. Marquart followed with a single, scoring Tayen Allen, and Sadler stole home.
