Highlanders tame Lions
No. 6 McLennan Softball pushed its winning streak to six with a pair of wins in Gainesville.
The Highlanders took the opener 6-5 with Olivia Garrett going the distance on the mound for the win.
McLennan scored one in the first. Chayne Allen singled and stole second. Traci Lowry then singled to score Allen.
North Central tied the game with a run in the bottom of the first. Miranda Serrato reached on an error and advanced on a sacrifice bunt by Abby Wolf. Bailey Short also reached on an error, scoring Serrato.
The Lions took the lead with a run in the bottom of the third. Wolf singled and advanced on defensive indifference. Rylee Adams then reached on an error, scoring Wolf.
The Highlanders added two runs in the fourth to take the lead. Lily King and Tayen Allen both singled. Kaelani Rogers doubled to score King, and Tayen Allen scored on a sac fly by Delanie Roeder.
North Central went back on top with two runs in the bottom of the fourth. Faith Ramirez and Montana Moore both singled and stole a base. Wolf's sacrifice fly score Ramirez, and Moore scored on an error.
McLennan tied the game with a run in the top of the sixth. Traci Lowry singled and advanced on a sacrifice bunt by Lillian Jones. Rogers then singled to score Lowry.
Two Highlander runs in the seventh put the squad back on top. Karaline Smitherman and Chayne Allen both singled. Natalie Klenda came in as a pinch runner for Smitherman, and both runners advanced on a wild pitch. Brooke Fechner then singled to score Klenda and Chayne Allen.
The Lions rounded out the scoring with a run in the bottom of the seventh. Adams singled and advanced around to third on an error. Olivia Martin then singled to score Adams.
McLennan came from behind to take the nightcap 10-3 victory. Natalie Klenda picked up the win in the circle.
North Central scored all three of its runs in the bottom of the fourth. Wolf reached on an error and Martin singled. Wolf then scored on an error, and Short walked. Both runners advanced on a sac bunt by Kayla Myatt. Holly Mahan then singled to score Martin and Short.
Five McLennan runs scored in the fifth. Roeder singled but was out on a fielder's choice by Rylie Marquart. Smitherman then doubled to score Marquart. Chayne Allen was hit by the pitch, and Jordan Tosch replaced Smitherman at second. Jones doubled to score Tosch and Jordan Tosch, and Jones scored on a double by Rogers. Tayen Allen then singled to score Rogers.
The Highlanders added two runs in the sixth. Chayne Allen walked, stole second and scored on a single by Jones. Jones then stole third and scored on a single by Rogers.
The final three McLennan runs came in the top of the seventh. Tayen Allen and Macie Jansky both singled and advanced on a sacrifice bunt by Roeder. Marquart walked to load the bases. Smitherman walked, scoring Tayen Allen, and Chayne Allen singled to score Jansky and Marquart.
