Highlanders fall to Weatherford in district tournament
The McLennan Highlanders run at the NJCAA Southwest District A Championship came to an end with a 12-10 loss to Weatherford Coyotes. Skylar Scott took the loss in the circle.
The Coyotes jumped out to an early lead with four runs in the top of the first. Alex Graham singled and scored on a Joni Jackson home run. Karlie Landrum then singled and scored on Aundrea Thompson's homerun.
The Highlanders put two runs on the board in the bottom of the first. Traci Lowry doubled and Kaelani Rogers singled. Ryleie Marquart then singled to score Lowry and Rogers.
Weatherford added a run in the second. Adeline Glatch was hit by the pitch and advanced on a sac bunt by Jackie Divine. Graham singled, and Glatch scored on a fielder's choice by Jackson.
McLennan tied the game with three runs in the bottom of the inning. Brooke Fechner led ow with a double and advanced on a ground out by Tayen Allen. Jordan Tosch followed with a single to score Fechner. Chayne Allen singled, and Lowry singled to score Tosch. Rogers also singled, scoring Chayne Allen.
The Coyotes scored one in the fourth. Graham singled but was out on Jackson's fielder's choice. A Landrum fielder's choice put Jackson out at second. Rian Coon was hit by the pitch, and Thompson singled to score Landrum.
The Highlanders tied the game again in the bottom of the fourth. Rogers walked and Lily King singled. Rylie Marquart then reached on an error, scoring Rogers.
Weatherford went back on top with a run in the fifth. Mabri Warren singled and advanced on a sac bunt by Glatch. Warren advanced to third on a fly out by Divine and scored on a single by Graham.
McLennan tied the game again in the bottom of the fifth. Tayen Allen walked and advanced on a sac bunt by Tosch. Chayne Allen singled, and Tayen Allen scored on a single by Lowry.
Once again, the Coyotes scored one to go ahead in the sixth. Landrum led off with a single and advanced on a wild pitch and ground out by Koon before scoring on a sac fly by Thompson.
The Highlanders took the lead with two runs in the bottom of the sixth. King and Jansky both singled. A fielder's choice by Fechner put King out at third. Tayen Allen singled to load the bases. Tosch then doubled to score Jansky and Fechner.
Weatherford went back on top with four runs in the top of the seventh. Glatch walked and was replaced by pinch runner Ava acGarcia. Divine singled, and Graham singled to score Garcia. Divine then scored on a sac fly by Jackson. Landrum singled to score Graham, and Coon doubled to score Landrum.
McLennan scored one in the bottom of the seventh to round out the scoring. Chayne Allen led off with a single and stole second. King then singled to Allen.
