The No. 6 McLennan women clobbered the Coastal Bend Cougars 90-28 tonight at The Highlands.
McLennan dominated from start to finish. Akeelah Wade's jumper with 8:48 on the clock began a 6-0 run for McLennan to open the game. Coastal Bend would be held scored for almost four minutes of play before Jalissa King put the Cougars on the board, 6-2.
McLennan responded with a 15-1 run to push the lead to 18 at 21-3 with one minute to play in the first quarter, and it would be a 25-5 McLennan lead going into the second.
The momentum stayed with McLennan into the second as the squad continued to pour on the points. McLennan was up 31-9 with 7:13 to go before the half and ended the frame on a 12-3 run to lead 43-12 at halftime.
Both teams were slow offensively to start the third. The two teams scored a combined 11 points in the first five minutes of the period to make it a 49-17 McLennan lead. Coastal Bend was held to just two free throws in the remainder of the quarter as McLennan scored 15 to carry a 64-19 lead into the fourth.
McLennan continued to roll in the final period, outscoring Coastal Bend 26-9 in the lop-sided victory.
Lanaijha Johnson led McLennan with 18 points. Danai Lewis and Charnelle Hoff scored 13 points each.
