Highlanders hammer Hill
In an exhilarating five-set battle, the McLennan Highlanders hammered the Hill Rebels 3-2 in the final home game of the 2025 season.
McLennan was on fire in the opening set. The Highlanders had the opening serve and quickly went up 3-1. The squad held the momentum throughout the set, pulling away the entire way to take the 25-10 win.
The second set would be much more of a battle from start to finish. The score was tied at 13 when the Highlanders began to make their move. McLennan pushed the lead to three at 19-16 and held on for the 25-20 victory.
McLennan continued to roll early in the third, leading by as many as four at 10-6. Hill began to rally and tied the set at 12. After exchanging points, the score was tied at 14. The Rebels took the momentum and pulled away for the 25-19 victory to stave off the sweep.
The Highlanders took control early on in the fourth, leading 8-4. Hill rallied to tie the game at nine and then took a three-point lead at 16-13. McLennan tied the game at 16 and the squads went point-for-point until a tie at 21. The Rebels took it 25-22 to force the fifth set.
McLennan opened the final set on a 4-1 run. Hill cut the lead to one at 6-5, and the Highlanders led 8-6 at the switch. McLennan added another point to go up 9-6 forcing a Rebel timeout. The Highlanders extended the lead to four at 12-8 and held on for the 15-10 win.
McLennan finishes conference play Saturday at 1 p.m. against Southwestern Christian in Terrell.
