McLennan women wrangle Weatherford
The McLennan women wrangled the Weatherford Coyotes for a 67-50 conference win at the handles.
McLennan took control early, opening the game on a 4-0 run with Lanaijha Johnson, Tajenae Gooden both all scoring. Panagiota Kalogirou's bucket followed by a free throw by Neso Anisiobi trimmed the lead back to one before McLennan pulled away. A 14-2 run over the next six minutes of play pushed the lead to 13, 18-5, The Coyotes rallied late but it would be an 11-point McLennan lead at the end of the first, 22-11.
Weatherford had the momentum early in the second, outscoring McLennan 13-4 to cut the lead back to two midway through the quarter, 26-24. McLennan responded with a 6-0 run capped with an Ar'Mya Amos-Horsley layup to go back ahead by eight, 32-24, and would lead by five at the half, 33-28.
In the third, McLennan began to pull away once again, pushing the lead back to 16 at 50-34 with 1:44 to play in the quarter. Weatherford started a comeback that continued into the final period, pulling within nine at 50-41 with just over nine minutes remaining in the game. McLennan held its ground with strong shooting and defense from Charnelle Hoof. The team led by eight, 58-50, with 4:39 remaining in the game and closed out on a 7-0 run to secure the win.
Charravia Smith led McLennan with 13 points. Charnelle Hoof and Tajenae Gooden added 12 and 10, respectively.
