Highlanders complete Vernon sweep
The McLennan Highlanders closed out conference play with a pair of victories over the Vernon Chaparrals this afternoon in Vernon.
Landrie Harris picked up the 14-0 win in the circle of the opener.
The Highlanders scored two in the first as Tehya Pitts singled and scored on a Trinity Allen home run.
Five more McLennan runs scored in the second. Alyssa Moreno and Madison Garcia both singled. Aynsli Lawson then singled to score Moreno. Mickayla Tosch walked, and Allen followed with a grand slam.
The Highlanders added another four runs in the fourth. Tosch singled and Allen walked. MJ Nicholson's fielder choice loaded the bases, and Lilli Piersons hit a grand slam.
The final three McLennan runs score in the fifth. Garcia singled and Delanie Roeder walked. Tosch then doubled to score Garcia. Allen was hit by the pitch, and Nicholson walked to score Roeder. Tosch then scored on a wild pitch.
In the second game, the Highlanders defeated the Chaparrals 13-3. Natalie Klenda got the win with Cydney Whitacre picking up the save.
McLennan scored first with a Lawson home run in the second.
Three more Highlander runs scored in the third. Allen doubled and Nicholson walked. Allen scored on a single by Ally Thompson. Madison Levsey then singled to score Nicholson and Thompson.
All three Vernon runs came in the bottom of the third. Kynlee Lewis and Avery Pemberton both singled. Jaycee Hinson came in as the pinch runner for Pemberton. Morgan Yeager singled to score Lewis, and Hinson scored on a fly out by Kamden Hutton. Anita Gonzalez then reached on an error, scoring Yeager.
McLennan added two runs in the fifth. Nicholson doubled and was replaced by pinch runner Roeder. Roeder was caught stealing, and Jansky scored on a triple by Levsey. Garcia then singled to score Levsey.
The Highlanders rounded out the scoring with seven runs in the seventh. Allen led off with a solo home run. Thompson and Levsey both singled and scored on a triple by Garcia. Lawson followed with a solo home run. Pitts then singled and score on a Tosch home run.
