The McLennan Highlanders opened their inaugural volleyball season with an early-morning match with the Blinn Buccaneers at the Wrangler Ranger Roundup in Cisco, Texas.
Blinn took control early in the opening set, jumping out to an 11-5 lead before a Highlander. The Buccaneers continued to push the score, taking the set 25-15.
McLennan found its rhythm in the second set. The Highlanders led early on before the Buccaneers rallied to tie the set at 10. The teams traded the lead back and forth, and the set would be tied once again at 15. Blinn took control at that point and took set two 25-20.
Set three was back and forth at the beginning but once again the Buccaneers controlled and led 23-17 but the Highlanders fought back to cut the lead in half, 23-20. Blinn needed two match points to take the final set 25-22.
Brooke Rimlinger led McLennan with 10 kills, and Caitlin Clampitt and Jayla Lee tallied eight each.
