Highlanders get first conference win at Temple
The McLennan Highlanders picked up their first conference victory in program history with a 3-0 sweep of the Temple Leopards on the road in Temple.
McLennan had the opening serve but couldn't get the opening point, giving Temple the early 1-0 lead. The Leopards would go up 4-1 before the Highlanders rallied to take the 6-5 lead. McLennan would lead by as many as seven down the stretch and took the opener 25-19.
In set two, it was Temple's turn to give away the opening point on the first sere, putting McLennan up 1-0. The Highlanders dominated from that point on, going up 4-1 and leading by as many as 15 to take the 25-10 win.
The first point giveaway trend continued into the third with the Highlanders unable to capitalize on the opening serve. The traded points for the first few minutes before the Highlanders were able to build a five-point lead as 9-4. Temple briefly cut that to four but McLennan rallied to extend the lead seven, 13-6. The Leopards stepped up their game on the second time through the serving order, trailing by three multiple times. The Highlanders pulled away late in the frame to win it 25-17 to secure the sweep.
McLennan will host Cisco at 1 p.m. Saturday for a conference match.
