Highlanders fall 3-1 at Navarro
The McLennan Highlanders dropped a non-conference match to the Navarro Bulldogs 3-1 tonight.
McLennan opened the first set on a 2-0 run and pushed the lead to six at 16-10. The Highlanders led 20-19 before Navarro rallied to take the 23-20 lead. McLennan got the needed side out and ended the set on a 5-0 run to take the opener 25-23.
Set two was a back-and-forth sequence of service errors to start. Navarro led 7-6 before scoring the next five points to build a six-point lead at 12-6. The Highlanders cut the lead to five several times late in the set but the Bulldogs held on for the 25-17 win.
In the third set, Navarro went up by four at 9-5 before McLennan rallied to tie the set at 11. The Highlanders briefly took the lead at 14-13. The teams traded the lead before the Bulldogs began to create some distance and taking the set at 25-16.
McLennan built an early four-point lead at 8-4 in the fourth. Navarro rallied to tie the game at eight and went up 10-8 before a side out. The Bulldogs led by five before the Highlanders trimmed the lead to three. Navarro pulled away again, winning the set 25-15 to secure the match victory.
McLennan travels to Vernon for a conference match Wednesday at 6 p.m.
