The McLennan Highlanders swept the North Central Lions 3-0 tonight at The Highlands.
McLennan came out on fire in the opening set. North Central took an early lead at 3-0 but the Highlanders quickly tied the set at three and took control. McLennan pushed the lead to six at 12-6. The Lions would cut the lead back to four late but the Highlanders held on to take it 25-19.
Set two was book ended by a back-and-forth battle. The set was tied at nine when McLennan began to create a little distance, building a four-point lead at 14-10. The Highlanders stretched the lead to five before the Lions began to rally, tying the game at 21. The teams traded points before the Highlanders edged it out at 26-24.
The third set would also be a close flight. McLennan led by three at 10-7 but the Lions came back, taking the lead at 18-17. The game was tied at 20 when the Highlanders scored the final five points to seal the sweep 25-20.
McLennan travels to Ranger Saturday for a conference match at 1 p.m.
