Highlanders come up short against Ranger
In a tough battle between two talented squad, the McLennan Highlanders fell to the Ranger Lady Rangers 3-2.
Ranger was in control early in the opening set, building a four-point lead at 8-4. McLennan found a rhythm and rallied to tie the game at nine. The Lady Rangers pulled away leading by as many as four. The Highlanders were able to pull within two but Ranger held off the rally to take the set 25-21.
The Lady Rangers held the lead through the majority of the second set but by narrow margins. The Highlanders fought to take the lead at 23-22 but Ranger scored the next three points to take it 25-23.
McLennan caught fire early in the third set, jumping out to a 7-1 lead. Ranger rallied late to tie the game at 23 but it would be the Highlanders scoring the last two points to stay alive, 25-23.
Set four was tit-for-tat from the opening serve to the final point. Neither team held more than a two-point lead. Ranger led 24-23 but McLennan stepped up, fighting for the 26-24 win to force a deciding set.
Ranger stole the momentum back in the final set leading 8-3 at the switch and holding on for the 15-7 victory to take the match.
In the final set, Range took the momentum and led 8-3 at the switch.
McLennan travels to Hillsboro Saturday to face the Hill Rebels at 1 p.m.
